Samsung's Global Strategy Group (GSG) is an incubation center for high-caliber global talent. It's goal is to enhance performance across Samsung's broad portfolio of companies by providing professional consulting services and developing internationally minded business leaders.At GSG Derrick participated in 17 assignments and led 7 engagements focused primarily on Samsung's B2B offerings of EPC services and capital equipment. He worked in 16 countries, received top performance evaluations, and was promoted from Global Strategist to Engagement Manager. Prior to his departure he led multinational teams of 3-5 consultants and oversaw project delivery to C-suite executives in multiple Samsung affiliates.

R.W. Sullivan Engineering is a boutique engineering firm located in Boston, MA. Their engineering staff consists of ~100 professionals dedicated to delivering fully coordinated, MEP engineering and construction management services. Within R.W. Sullivan Engineering, Derrick worked in the Code Group, an team of ~10 technical experts focused on resolving complex regulatory challenges.Derrick served as a regulatory policy expert, and rose from an engineer, to project lead, and to an Associate of the firm. His responsibilities included client relationships, proposals/sales, and project management/execution. He regularly represented the firm on a variety of complex and politically charged construction projects, and he built a reputation as the firm's liaison to some of the most difficult and demanding clients. He developed a client base of roughly 600 architects, owners, and developers and manged 200+ projects from inception to completion. Derrick regularly engaged with a wide audience of owners, investors, developers, designers, contractors, and laymen. He led critical negotiations with city and state officials on behalf of several clients, and was often responsible for securing the certificates, permits and approvals critical to project completion.

The US Naval Research Laboratories (NRL) is the corporate research laboratory for the Navy and Marine Corps, it conducts a broad program of scientific research and advanced technology development.At NRL Derrick served as a research engineer. He collaborated with PhD level chemists to find environmentally friendly alternative for Halon-1301 chemical fire suppression systems. He developed experimental protocols, designed and constructed testing equipment for full scale fire tests, conducted experiments, and identified the most suitable suppression systems for on-board flammable liquid storage rooms. He analyzed and documented the research and prepared design guidance for implementation throughout the Naval Fleet, including the USS Ronald Reagan.While working at the Naval Research Laboratories, Derrick underwent a rigorous background check and received a S/TS security clearance.
