Illuminate Education is a K-12 technology company that aims to bring teachable moments to light through data and insights into the whole child. I joined Illuminate when they acquired Fluence Learning, a company I co-founded. Upon joining, I oversaw all content related technology, a cornerstone of Illuminate’s technology portfolio.● I conceived and led the effort to migrate three other content organizations onto a single technology platform, which was critical to creating a cohesive product line from several disparate sources.● I lead a major cross team software initiative to build a new content administration technology which lays the groundwork for the next generation of Illuminate products. ● I led and participated in multiple technical due diligence exercises, many of which led to successful acquisitions of other software companies.

Fluence Learning was a K-12 formative assessment company built from technology and business assets reacquired from Amplify Education. My co-founders and I developed new business strategies to reflect the changing K-12 educational technology market. Fluence Learning was acquired by Insight Venture Partners as part of their Illuminate Education technology portfolio.

Amplify Education is a K-12 technology company whose vision is to transform the classroom with digital products and services. I joined Amplify when they acquired Intel-Assess, the company I co-founded.● When Intel-Assess was acquired, I successfully lead the effort to settle our team within a large corporation, which involved technical integrations, process modifications, and establishing a vision for future development.● After several promotions, I was responsible for managing all of Amplify's assessment product development teams, a globally distributed staff of over a hundred employees.● I lead a division wide effort to dramatically improve productivity by migrating to a more modern software development and delivery environment. This effort involved selling a vision to executive management, as well as coordinating with every team in the division.

Intel-Assess is a K-12 formative assessment solution that helps teachers tailor their instruction to individual student needs. I co-founded Intel-Assess in 2006 and helped grow it to a successful, multi-million dollar business. Intel-Assess was acquired by Amplify Education in 2012.● As the technical co-founder, I was solely responsible for designing and building all of the technology components that drove the Intel-Assess business. I also implemented an agile development process early on so that we could quickly adapt to changing business needs.● As our business expanded, I grew the product development team to include additional engineering, QA, and product management staffing. This team was completely virtual, which required management of development activities across the country.● I negotiated and managed integrations with a dozen different partners, which were critical to building a large customer base.

Edusoft is a K-12 assessment management platform that allows teachers to efficiently analyze student results and progress. ● I championed and led a successful effort to overhaul the existing development process in favor of an agile methodology. This required coordinating all development, project management, and QA teams in transitioning to a new iterative development process. ● I provided technical direction for several joint development projects with other Houghton-Mifflen business units, which helped establish Edusoft as a development leader in the organization.

Classroom Connect was a provider of K-12 online instructional materials, as well as professional development products for educators.● I led development efforts for two new products: a web based learning management system, and a technology integration portal that seamlessly incorporated all Classroom Connect online products. ● I led technical due diligence for the successful acquisition of another software company.● I designed and implemented single source code generation platform for automated creation of all application domain objects, database schema, O/R mapping configuration files, high level business services, and web service bindings from a single XML source file. Two shipped applications used this platform, reducing development time by an estimated 30%.

Z-Tel was a telecommunications provider that offered telephone services enhanced with Internet-based features.● I was the primary architect for a suite of web services that exposed core business services to several partners. I designed and implemented the first pilot project, which integrated billing services for a nationwide MCI promotional site that scaled in production to millions of transactions a week.

Project Achieve was a web-based curriculum management application that helped K-12 educators to be more effective in managing student data. I joined the company as its first developer, and fourth employee. Project Achieve was acquired by Achievement Technologies in 2001.● As the first developer, I designed and implemented all of the functionality in the initial application release. ● I was responsible for building the development team to include additional engineering, QA, and product management staffing, eventually growing to over twenty employees.● I participated in due diligence for all funding rounds, as well as led technical due diligence for the successful acquisition of another software company.

Tivoli Systems is a division of IBM that specialized in systems management tools. I joined Tivoli as an intern and left as a senior engineer.● Before continuous integration was a common practice, I implemented a system for running automated nightly builds and reporting results. Every application group in the company eventually adopted this system. ● I spent six months in Rome leading a cross team development effort with an Italian IBM division.
