Lead Health And Safety, Well Being - Consultant (Full Time Mental Health Support On-Site)Laing O'Rourke Jun 2019 - Dec 2020Melbourne, And Sydney AustraliaI have been in the unfortunate position of being involved in 2 workplace fatalities whilst working in the construction industry which have had a significant impact on my life. I have paid a heavy price losing a 25 year marriage and estrangement from my 3 children. I had many dark days. I could have easily been one of the 8 men a day that end their life in this country, this figure is also increasing for women. There is currently a mental health crisis in Australia. I am pursuing my passion for mental health in the workplace to improve peoples lives. I am a gifted public speaker and presenter. I want to work with organisation's to develop cultures and make mental health a priority. I have developed a number of workshops from my personal life journey in developing tools of survival. I am available for government departments, unions, policing and the construction industry. I was engaged by Laing O'Rourke on the Sydney Metro Project. This was a pilot program in the mental health space on a 18 month contract, the program has been well received by the company. I was engaged on two separate construction projects; in both Sydney (Sydney Metro) and Melbourne (Level Crossing works). On the RuOK day I presented a powerful presentation on my life journey which consisted of being raised in a dysfunctional family in Mt Druitt western Sydney, with a father who had been in prison in H-Division Pentridge. I was homeless at 16 years old living in a Salvation Army refuge and working 3 jobs to change my circumstances. I then worked as a policeman in Sydney for 10 years, which included identifying my own brother from a heroin overdose. I have also been made redundant in a major restructure with the NSW EPA. This is a sample of the significant setbacks that I have faced, but I never gave in that is the message I want to convey, the power of resilience, every individual life has value and meaning.
