Our team used a digital signal analyzer to test the signal integrity of 10GbE prototype boards, then compared the output of the data to the model of the trace in our program. When we were off, we investigated and corrected the program to include the overlooked high-speed effect that had caused the difference in the theoretical and experimental values.
