As a self-employed science journalist I always worked thoroughly. I preferred to visit the person I interviewed and I also liked to dive into the professional literature to find out the scientific consensus on a subject. My best stories are a mixture of personal interviews, stories and background information. I also like small anecdotes and stories about personal experiences, but I mainly use them to discuss larger social issues.

In 2002 I received my international certificate for Body Attack, a group fitness program from Les Mills. I was also instructor for Body Combat and Body Jam, but I preferred to focus on Body Attack. This is an athletic and super challenging workout with energetic music and fast paced choreography. I gave classes 1 to 3 evenings per week. It was a perfect contrast for sitting in the office!!

For the popular science quiz Hoe?Zo! - presented by Bart Peeters - I did research and wrote texts for Bart and the experts who had to answer the science-related questions in the show. The series was broadcasted between June 30 and August 25 2009, Nederland 1, at 20.30 p.m.

NWT (Natuurwetenschap & Techniek) is one of the best popular science magazines within the Netherlands. Our aim is to be more critical compared to the more general media, to debunk existing hypes and to make hard core science more sexy. For example: my cover article (5000 words) in the October 2008 issue elaborates on the cell that seems to be the engine of a lot of cancers: the cancer stem cell. The total amount of print numbers is 25.000 a month.

As a general reporter for Cobouw, the independent daily newspaper for the Dutch building industry, my favourite feature topics are architecture and ICTs. I prefer to interview people by walking around in their field of expertise (construction sites, areas that need to be developed), but I have been writing a lot of short news articles too. The total editorial staff of Cobouw consists of 35 people. The total number of daily prints is 15.000. Cobouw is published by SDU publishers in The Hague.

Delta is the weekly newspaper for the Delft University of Technology. I write the newsarticles and lifestyle articles by interviewing researchers, students and other employees within the University.

During my PhD research I aimed to develop a method to stimulate innovations by optimizing knowledge sharing within networks. I participated within the European sixth framework project HILAS (Human Integration into the Lifecycle of the Aviation Systems), a network of 40 organizations spread over 10 European countries. My research group was located within the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TBM).

As the Program Manager of NITEL (Netherlands Institute for Telemedicine, which is part of the foundation EPN (Electronic highway Platform Netherlands), I aimed to improve Dutch healthcare by stimulating the implementation and use of telemedicine services, helping to remove barriers, and enhancing the opportunities for telemedicine.

I started my career at research institute TNO. The particular institute I worked was called TNO-STB, Strategy, Technology and Policy. My department researched the societal effects of ICTs and is currently part of TNO ICT. I researched Dutch and European governments and other large organizations and specialized in the fields of E-health (ICT in healthcare), E-learning (ICT in education) and E-government (ICT and democracy).
