Des Echavarrie began his sommelier career in wine at age 20. He won the Chaine des Rotisseurs Young Sommelier National Finals in 2004 at age 22 and the U.S. Top New Somm competition in 2011. That same year, he took a position as a sommelier at The French Laundry and passed the MS exam in 2012. Des launched Scale Wine Group in August of 2016 with a mission to help family-owned wineries build wine brands through wholesale strategy.
