Truman is a high-trust impact community for national security leaders. Truman members develop timely, innovative, and principled solutions to preserve and expand democracy, human rights, prosperity, and security around the world.

I served as the Deputy Program Manager for Marketing & the Solution for FEMA's Customer-Centered Communications (C3) team. This work involved applying social and behavioral science, data science, and human-centered design to increase public participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. I oversaw the planning, execution, and evaluation of this $50M program.Before working with the NFIP, I served as project manager for the development of the 2014-2018 FEMA Strategic Plan. In this role I helped coordinate strategy development across the Agency, providing communications, design, and facilitation support. I also led the refresh for FEMA’s Strategic Foresight Initiative (SFI), supporting emergency management nationwide by providing rich, interdisciplinary context and tools for EM planning and strategy.

At SITE, I helped graduate students and faculty members improve their teaching through individual consultations and facilitated workshops on course design, teaching methods, and pedagogy. I specialized in active learning, STEM teaching (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), supporting diverse learners, and effective visual design for lectures and presentations. I also supported the Associate Dean by designing materials showcasing Institute services.

I taught six lower-division and one upper-division undergraduate geography course at Penn State, ranging in size from 6-120 students, in both traditional and hybrid (online/in person) settings. I was grateful to be recognized with teaching awards from my department and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.As a researcher, I used quantitative and qualitative research methods (mail surveys, GIS, interviews, and design charettes) to support several funded research projects. These projects explored: • Improving wildfire risk communication in California's wildland-urban interface • The social and physical vulnerability of mobile homes in rural Pennsylvania • Rebuilding efforts in Biloxi, MS in the wake of Hurricane Katrina • Behavioral science interventions for greenhouse gas mitigation in Penn State residence halls

At PeopleLink, I helped implement and oversee cultural exchange programs for international students visiting from Japan, China, France, and Spain. I identified and recruited qualified independent contractors who were responsible for coordinating local programs, developed and conducted training exercises for teaching staff, and supervised and served as an on-call resource for programs while student groups were in-country. Overall, I worked with over 200 teachers who implemented educational programs for over 3000 students.Prior to working as Field Coordinator, I supported PeopleLink's Marketing Director by researching the costs and logistical feasibility of educational activities for student groups, and prepared marketing proposals for international clients.
