Through my role as a Servant Leader Intern, I am granted the opportunity to independently teach a classroom of students at a local elementary school. The curriculum is focused on high-quality integrated reading with developmentally appropriate and culturally diverse books that allow all children a sense of hope and efficacy through learning.

As the sole representative of Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest, I played a pivotal role as a spokesperson for the Girls Inc. brand on a national scale by creating multi-platform marketing content to highlight issues that impact girls today. By creating blog posts, conducting interviews, and participating in monthly meetings with other brand ambassadors I was able to work collaboratively with 10 other affiliate representatives across the nation to promote material that aligned with the Girls Inc. mission and values to a widespread audience.

Through this role, I worked collaboratively to complete various projects based on climate change awareness, education, research, and outreach with a focus on presenting through unique mediums such as spoken word poetry, board game creation, and music. Final projects were presented through a museum exhibit, outside galleries, and online media. Each aspect required a number of skills in brand creation and promotion, education through story-telling, and research and presentation.

This 5-week internship required crew members to work collaboratively on local ecological restoration and preservation service projects to gain real-world work experience while working closely with our communities and the environment. Projects involved tree planting, invasive species removal, pruning, daylighting, and other environmental conservation work. The internship also consisted of an educational component that took place once a week where crew members were taught curriculum based on environmental systems and sustainability, ecosystem dynamics, and other environmental science focused subjects. The role allowed crew members to alternate between leadership positions every week, requiring crew members to take turns leading the team during a given project.
