I have led mobile-based CDSS intervention for providing evidence-based care for hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, asthma, COPD, mental health & AUD in many resource-poor settings.

During this tenure, I was responsible for the implementation and coordination of the mPower Heart project. The “m-Power Heart” project was carried out in the Solan District, Himachal Pradesh with the primary objective of designing a feasible and sustainable evidence-based, decision support-enabled, health care delivery model for the management of hypertension and diabetes in the primary health care facilities of Himachal Pradesh. During 21 months of the project, trained nurses carried out opportunistic screening of 22,009 patients (aged 30 years or above), using the mPower Heart Decision Support System (DSS) at government clinics and identified 6797 patients either with hypertension and/or diabetes. A significant reduction in blood pressure and blood sugar was observed in the study participants during the follow-up visits. Also, I lead the Solan Surveillance Study whose aim was to develop a model surveillance system for cardio-metabolic diseases (CMDs) and their risk factors in rural India. SSS created a large database of the rural population of India and helped in assessing the prevalence of CMD risk factors and diseases among adults aged 20 years and above, permanently residing in well-defined rural communities. Twenty-eight Community Health Workers (CHWs) were recruited and trained, who visited all the households in the 38 sub-center areas. They, through a tablet computer-based software, gathered health data and screened 40000 participants for hypertension and diabetes.
