About Dev Kumar Sunuwar

Dev Kumar Sunuwar advises UN Secretary-General António Guterres and represents Indigenous Peoples from the Asia-Pacific region on the use of the UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples (UNVFIP). He has been a member of the Fund's Advisory Board of Trustees since January 1, 2021.Sunuwar is a journalist and law practitioner in Nepal. He extensively covers international human rights and issues concerning Asian Indigenous Peoples in national, regional, and international forums and in various media outlets. He possesses a vast network and hands-on experience in the field of Asian Indigenous Peoples' rights and issues. Hailing from Koĩts-Sunuwar, one of the 59 Indigenous Peoples legally recognized in Nepal, Sunuwar has held various roles in radio, television, newspapers, magazines, and online media, including positions as an investigative journalist.In addition, Sunuwar is the Asia Program Coordinator for Cultural Survival, an international organization dedicated to Indigenous Peoples since 1972. He has brought various issues and challenges faced by Asian Indigenous Peoples to numerous UN bodies and other international forums.
