DEIC – District Early Intervention centre is an initiative of National Health Mission which is established in every district to serve infants and toddlers with disabilities and to support young children with challenging behaviors. There is increasing recognition that the first few years of a child’s life are a particularly sensitive period in the process of development. Early intervention programs are designed to mitigate the factors that place children at risk of poor outcomes. It’s a wonderful thing to care for children, help them grow, change, learn and keep them safe on their way.The following services are provided at DEIC to address the needs and priorities of child’s family.- Dedicated and full time Pediatrician- Audiology and Speech Therapy - Physiotherapy- Dental care- Optometry- Special Education - Clinical psychology and counseling services- Referral support to higher centreThe screening/evaluation on four Major areas 4Ds (Defects at Birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, Disabilities including Development Delays) is provided free of cost. However a child comes to be referred, evaluated and determined eligible, early intervention services provide vital support so that children with developmental needs can thrive and grow.We aim at newborns and kids who have a developmental delay or disability. If we are to give every child the chance to live a happy and successful life, we need to act while they are in the early years. DO NOT wait for a referral to early intervention centre. If any parent is concerned about their child’s development visit us from 9:00AM to 4:00PM on all working days at DEIC, Children’s Ward, General Hospital, Ernakulam.
