About Devank Patel
I am a Chemical Engineer who graduated from the University of Cincinnati that is willing to take risks and expand my knowledge on different engineering topics. My experience working at a research laboratory as a high school student in conjunction with experiences that I have encountered at the University of Cincinnati have led me to have an interest in the field of Materials science. I have worked extensively with polymers and working with graphene to improve battery technology. I am currently working on creating a composite to make a 3D printed CNT/TPU water filtration system.Interested in processing engineering, research and development, production engineering, nanotechnology, and the chemical/petroleum industry.

Production Engineer
Laboratory Research Assistant
While working at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, I have fabricated coumarin-6 loaded PLG microparticles using a single emulsion, solvent evaporation technique. After creating the particles, I analyzed microparticle size using light microscopy and ImageJ and microparticle yield and fabricated PLA/PCL patches loaded with varying concentrations of coumarin-6 PLG particles using a phase inversion technique. The patches were then characterized by observing the impact of coumarin-6 loaded PLG particles on patch shape memory, degradation, and water permeability. At this moment in time, we are working on a publication of our results.
Process Automation Engineer
During this internship, I was able to gain more knowledge on what process control is and how a chemical plant is controlled. I Implemented ABB 800xA object name changes to mitigate burner management loop check items, Created Aspen IP.21 unit operation graphics to help engineers during process analysis, and Assisted in burner management application, library, and hardware downloads.
Tes Process Automation Engineer
While closely working with the Technical Expertise & Solutions Process Automation group, I supported the Process Automation Plus project team by analyzing alarms that rang in each section of the plant andpresented alarm findings to plant operations during an in-depth plant assessment I also analyzed control system setpoint changes to determine correct values for optimal plant operation, conducted cost analysis on pumps throughout the plant, and presented findings to plant leaders.
Laboratory Research Assistant
Working at Nanoworld Laboratories at the University of Cincinnati, I was able to gain knowledge on the topic of electrochemistry by attempting to optimize graphene to incorporate into Sodium-Ion coin cells. I recently started a new project in hopes of creating a CNT-TPU composite that is 3D printable to create a water filter which can be heated to kill bacteria while stopping debris to make clean drinking water.
Regulatory Affairs Specialist
As a Regulatory Affairs intern, I was able to assist the Regulatory team in submitting paperwork to government agencies around the world in an attempt to continue selling product in different countries. I was also able to work with different departments such as Product Development, Manufacturing, and Marketing to get a better understanding of the steps a company takes to create a product that is able to be sold on the market.
Laboratory Research Assistant
At Case Western Reserve University, I was the project manager for two projects: "The Adhesive Forces between Two Identical Polymer Surfaces" and "The Use of Sulfonated PolyHIPE for the Collection of Heavy-Metal Ions". I worked with professionals in the field to validate results, supplied samples to undergraduate students and worked on creating a procedure for capturing heavy-metal ions in polyHIPE. I also presented research to professionals within the greater Cleveland, OH/Akron, OH area.
Lifeguard
At the West End YMCA, my duties as a lifeguard were to make sure that the pool rules were being enforced (ex. making sure that no one dove headfirst into the shallow end of the pool), the chemicals in the pool were to standards, and closing the pool area, making sure no one is left behind and that the pool deck is cleaned for the next day.
