• Researched the cardio-protective properties of adipocyte AMPK protein using a genetic knockout mice model at Dr. Julia Xu’s lab after completing lab technical and safety training.• Scheduled experiments around my undergraduate timetable to spend 38 hours at the lab per week to meet the weekly data targets. • Extracted and amplified (PCR) DNA from mice tail to establish their genotype by the help of agarose gel electrophoresis, and characterize over 200 mice into control and experimental (adipocyte-AMPK-alpha1 KO and adipocyte-AMPK-alpha2 KO) cohorts. • Stained the cardiomyocytes of the mice with Hematoxylin and Eosin to visualize the cells under a light microscope and measure their size, using imageJ, to study Cardiac Hypertrophy.
