Sr. R&D Thermal & Fluids EngineerTeco-Westinghouse Motor Company Jun 2009 - Apr 2014Round Rock, Tx, Us- Lead (technical/program manager) engineer for “Thermal Management of Liquid Cooled High Power Density Machines” project. Led the team successfully and delivered the complex thermal simulation model for the water jacketed electrical motors for 2 MW permanent magnet synchronous and DFIG machines for wind turbine application. Calibrated the thermal and flow model with the experimental data within 10% of accuracy. This initiative helped the organization to accelerate liquid cooled product development and launch it into the market on fast track. - Carried out experimental investigation of the contact resistance between water cooled jacket frame and the stator for high power density electric motors and generators- Technical lead engineer for designing a liquid cooled system for 2 MW converter for wind turbine application (system level cooling). Designed and created specifications of the liquid cooling system which includes pump, manifolds, pressure regulators, cold plate design, liquid to air heat exchanger for 690 V medium voltage converter as well as cooling requirements of each sub component such as IGBTs and charging & discharge resistors (component level cooling). Successfully passed the thermal tests for the machine or system at full load.- Design and testing of air core reactors using active and passive thermal management cooling methods.- Provided technical assistance for in house super-conducting 2 MW electric generator projects which require numerical analysis using cryogenic cooling. - Led the thermal team across multiple geo locations and supervised their progress for CFD analysis. -
Research & Development EngineerAdvanced Cooling Technologies Inc May 2007 - Jun 2009- Principal and Co-Principal Investigator of SBIR Phase I & II programs funded by US Department of Energy, in the cutting edge R&D area of nanofluids for thermal management of high power electronics. Led a team of 2 engineers and 2 technicians from inception to completion of the programs. Major roles in these projects were providing technical leadership, resource allocation, schedule management, financial planning, customer and supplier interaction and regular reporting to higher management as well as customers.- Technical lead and a team member for multiple research programs funded by US government agencies such as NASA, AFRL and NSF. The technologies involved in these projects were development of fast response fabric test set up to calibrate numerical analysis, thermal management of electronics box for fighter planes using active and passive cooling such as phase change material, advanced cooling via heat pipes, thermoelectric cooling or forced convection, advanced vapor compression loop for Lunar application and two phase capillary loop for combat vehicles.- Duties involved in various projects were analytical analysis of the thermodynamic loops, numerical analysis using CFD codes, prototype design, fabrication and experimental testing.- Write technical proposals (Phase I & II) to US government agencies to extend company future technology capability.
