I worked on the Premium team, developing features for users to get the most out of their subscription in the consumer Android app. Prior to that, I worked on Discover, a (short-lived) new tab in the mobiles apps that helped users discover interesting, relevant content from outside their network.Development was done using a mix of Java and Kotlin in a modern Jetpack-based architecture.

I was an Android developer on Google Assistant ("Ok Google.") My team focused on wearable devices such as smartwatches and earbuds. I worked extensively on the device setup process where users configure new wearable devices from their phone. The framework I helped develop allowed us to easily support new wearables like the Pixel Watch and customize the experience for new devices like the latest Pixel and Galaxy phones.

I was an Android developer and lead on the Careers team, helping members find the next step in their career. I led my team's migration to a modern architecture based on Android's recommendations. As a lead, I served as a point of contact for other teams, oversaw multi-platform projects, helped plan the team’s roadmap and coordinated work with both local teammates and offshore contractors.I also completed AI Academy – the company's three course program culminating in an individualized machine learning mentorship. During my three month mentorship with the Anti-Abuse team, I developed a model to identify fake accounts involved in specific scams.

I worked on Strava's popular social media app for athletes. 🚴 As a member of the Summit team, I worked on paid features in the company's Android app. In addition to training and analysis tools, we also owned the checkout process and did a lot of work to fine-tune the way we pitch Summit to non-subscribers.

Our public SDKs included Navigation, Observer (location collection and reporting) and Mapping.Prior to that, I was a lead on MapQuest's popular GPS navigation app for Android. I helped build an in-cab display that monitors and controls automated "smart farm" equipment including self-driving tractors. It was built on top of Android and uses standards common in the automotive and agriculture industries including CAN bus.We used Android as a platform for building a suite of interconnected applications, full of Services, ContentProviders, BroadcastReceivers, SQLite databases and native C/C++. It was a great experience that I wouldn't have gotten by working on more conventional, self-contained applications.

I worked on a variety of server-side projects, like web-based tools used internally by customer service and Spring-based RESTful web services used by the company's mobile apps.I also led the company's effort to expand the advertising it does on behalf of its network of "service professionals." The core of that work was managing online advertisements in an automated way, using web services provided by the advertiser.

During my 5+ years at the railroad, I worked on software for accessorial billing. Those are the charges for anything beyond getting a railcar from A to B, like weighing a railcar while its in transit or storing a shipping container before it's loaded onto a train or truck.My most recent experience was designing and implementing a service that uses a rule engine to determine which rates applies to a service, depending on whether certain conditions were met. For example, a discounted rate might only apply for a hopper car carrying coal east to a specific location.The rest of my experience was writing Enterprise Java web applications using more common web and messaging technologies.
