Many years ago when I was a child, I remember watching those Peace Corps commercials and seeing suffering people, especially children, all over the world. I thought then, as I still do, an obligation to help people do something to better their lives.Helping less fortunate people, through monetary donations to such great causes as Save the Children, or spending time trying to positively influence a boy’s life through Big Brothers, Big Sisters, are examples of ways in which I have tried to help. The other way has been to help people in business grow themselves professionally and personally. As a leadership development consultant and Certified Professional Coach who works with people-leaders, I provide leadership consulting, coaching, facilitation of leadership programs, and designing leadership curriculum. I’ve led people in my career, so I know it’s not easy. Despite your best intentions, people you lead may misinterpret and make assumptions about your abilities, trustworthiness, even your competence. Leading people can be, at times, frustrating, stressful, and thankless. But I know it is also a rewarding experience, seeing someone grow and become very successful in their job, career, and life. The one important thing any people-leader has to do is put their efforts behind developing the skills of the people they lead.
