Alex is Senior Lecturer in One Health Trusted Research Environments at the University of Bristol. Alex uses interdisciplinary research methods and techniques combining social and natural sciences to understand human-animal-environmental health in marginalised and unsurveilled settings including conflict, criminality, and displacement. Alex’s work as a veterinary surgeon and anthropologist explores emerging areas of relevance to pandemic preparation, biosecurity, and climate change, antimicrobial resistance, and the use of new forms of evidence and expertise to inform policy and practice in a rapidly changing world. Alex holds a range of honorary and visiting positions including at the KCL Conflict Health Research Group, Oxford Climate Change & (In)Security (CCI) project, a Johns Hopkins Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Fellowship, and a recent ESRC Policy Fellow in National Security and International Relations.
