Research And Development Manager
Senior R&D Project Manager
Senior Quality Engineer
Quality Engineer, New Product Development
Phd Candidate
Developed and implemented laminar flow systems, including a custom built cone-and-pate shearing device, to assess the effects of hydrodynamic shear stress on pro-inflammatory signaling in endothelial cells. Developed flow device specifications to satisfy user requirements.Validated and characterized cone-and-plate shearing device to ensure laminar azimuthal flow.Adapted a microfluidic device platform in a novel application to examine the fine spatial resolution by which endothelial cells sense shear stress and respond to inflammatory stimuli associated with metabolic dysfunction.Designed and developed an in vitro model mimicking the diabetic vascular environment to quantify inflammatory events and assess endothelial signal transduction.Identified a novel pathway by which expression and signaling of a prominent cell receptor in diabetes (RAGE) is modulated by hydrodynamic shear stress in a manner consistent with the focal susceptibility to atherosclerosis.Developed an analytical system to quantify endothelial responses to human-derived dietary lipids under a range of physiological shear stress magnitudes and identified a putative role for the transcription factor IRF-1 in focal atherogenesis.Mentored, advised, and trained 6 undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and individual research projects. Training resulted in publication authorships and students’ placements in graduate school and additional paid laboratory and industry positions.Worked as a teaching assistant in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Mathematics. Organized and led discussions and lectures in multivariable calculus courses comprised of over 80 students and received outstanding student evaluations. Assisted professors in designing lectures and planning course material.
Research Experience For Undergraduates (Reu)
Optimized a colony hybridization procedure to determine the DNA sequences that make up the P450 genes in the bacteria Actinoplanes sp. for the scale-up production of P450 enzymes used in the study of drug metabolism. My research resulted in the identification and sequencing of a previously unknown P450 open reading frame (ORF).
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Calibrated and installed sensors in experimental water distribution systems. Conducted simulation experiments aimed at evaluating water quality monitoring systems as an early warning of the release of Biological Agents of Concern (BAC).
Engineering Summer Intern
Worked on design and construction, as well as oversaw contractor work, of a multi-phase campground project. Performed building condition surveys on Forest Service properties and buildings.
