About Devin Bunce
I completed my Master’s thesis in December 2017, the focus of which was a space mission design software tool for small satellites called DyLAN (Dynamically Leveraged Automated N-body Trajectory Optimization). This tool was built in house from scratch by a small team of graduate and under graduate students. Developing this tool has strengthened my C++ and Python coding skills, and I gained experience using Git version control and Linux OS, as well as an understanding of complex orbital dynamics. Since then I have done three internships with Northrop Grumman's flight dynamics team as well as work part time for CU Aerospace as a coder for their optimization software. Now I am looking to apply my skills for a full time position.
Listed skills include Orbital Mechanics, C++, Trajectory Optimization, Numerical Analysis, and 14 others.

Devin Bunce work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Flight Dynamicist
Graduate Research Assistant
Working on a research grant from NASA’s Small Business Innovation Research program developing a nonlinear optimization package that works on serial and parallel architecture to handle both dense and sparse problems. Responsibilities include developing comprehensive unit tests to evaluate the algorithm and maintain computation consistency throughout.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Assisted professors in various courses such as Aerospace Dynamical Systems, Aerospace Flight Mechanics, Intro to Aerospace Engineering, and Orbital Mechanics. Duties include attending lecture, providing homework solutions, grading homework, and holding office hours.
Teaching Fellow
Independently instructed and improved upon the established curriculum for Intro to Flight Mechanics, a sophomore level undergraduate course. Responsibilities include development and running lectures, designing assignments, holding office hours, and managing a teaching assistant.
Aerospace Engineer
Developed two pieces of software as continuation work from code developed as a graduate research assistant. The first is a hybrid optimal control tool called DyLAN (Dynamically Leveraged Automated N-Body solver) to design low-energy trajectories utilizing dynamical structures such as invariant manifolds off periodic orbits in the circular restricted.
Flight Dynamicist
Worked with the Flight Dynamics team in Dulles, VA. Responsibilities included providing orbital analysis through STK to subsystems such as power and thermal, rendezvous and proximity operations for CYGNUS, proposal writing and analysis for cislunar ARTEMIS missions around the Gateway orbit, and improving upon the low-thrust solver developed the previous.
Flight Dynamics Intern
Worked with the Flight Dynamics team in the Innovation Systems branch located in Dulles, VA. Responsibilities included assisting with day to day operations such as proposal writing, delivering orbital trajectory products for the Cygnus spacecraft to NASA, and being the lead developer for a hybrid optimization trajectory software focused on low-thrust.
Satellite Operations Intern
Assisted the development of a high-fidelity power model of the Earth monitoring CubeSats to enable more efficient duty cycling of the satellite constellation. Tasks included developing calibration functions that utilize a hybrid optimal control scheme to converge on accurate model coefficients, developing scripts to update the satellite models on a regular.
Graduate Research Assistant
Working on a research grant from NASA’s Small Spacecraft Technology Program developing a SmallSat active thermal management system. Responsibilities include development of a thermal model to aid in working fluid selection, design of microchannel connectors to the panel, design of a leak test chamber, and design of a 0.5 U support module which includes pump.
Stem Camp Instructor
This was a one week camp participated in for two summers. Instructed high school students ages fourteen to eighteen in basic orbital mechanics which covered Keplerian two-body motion, Newtonian gravitational attraction, and an overview of the basic conic orbits. Assisted the students in constructing model gliders and model rockets based on the design.
Heop Tutor
One-on-one mentoring of a student in the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), a program to give assistance to low income students to help them be successful in their respective majors. Provided assistance in engineering classes in Fluids, Dynamics, and Mechanics of Materials.
Mechanical Engineering Co-Op
Worked in a small chemical engineering team managing and updating a cavitation test stand through implementing better materials and a data logger to monitor a load cell in addition to comparing results to competing test stands. Analyzed business data sheets to make projections about potential regions of business growth in both foreign and domestic markets.
Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op
Worked on various projects (experiments, tests, designing of tooling, etc.) to improve linkage and flow of production, reduce cycle time, reduce cost of product, as well as remove variability in production. Was a part of a variety of teams which involved working with other co-ops, engineers, quality engineers, production control engineers, and finance.
