My background has been interdisciplinary and I think that's an important asset I bring to any team. Through development of my skills in several scientific and engineering fields I have a diverse toolbox with which to solve problems. This has also provided me with many opportunities to quickly learn new skills and adapt existing skills to a new project. In my Bachelor's studies I specialized in Nanoscience (a chemistry/physics multidisciplinary field) with a minor in physics and math. This specialization along with my undergraduate research involved a great deal of laboratory work including an opportunity for original research in thin film characterization. After my undergraduate degree I moved to Hamilton to begin my Master's studies in Nuclear Astrophysics at McMaster where I developed a novel heavy ion detector from simulation to manufacture which is currently in use at the DRAGON laboratory at TRIUMF. As a PhD student I specialized in detector design and development of a micropattern gas detector based neutron imaging system which required intensive skill development in instrument design, electronics, and image analysis. Having completed my PhD I am now the systems control and data acquisition specialist for the McMaster small angle neutron scattering facility.
