Projects include development and engineering of single chain antibodies, directed evolution and structures of enzymes involved in cellulose metabolism, engineering and structures of fluorescent proteins, and developing novel genetically encoded materials.

My PhD work involved understanding of protein and protein complexes involved in transcription, chromatin management, and packaging of the genome. Specifically, I focused on the histone chaperone Spt6, it's bacterial homolog Tex, and important binding partners such as Spn1. Working closely with collaborators, we determined structures of Spt6, Tex, Spn1, and complexes of these proteins using x-ray crystallography, along with rigorous biophysical, biochemical, and genetic characterization.
