During my internship with THI I worked to create a program manual for a photovoice project. Photovoice is an innovative advocacy tool that uses photography to raise awareness about a social justice issue, in this case food insecurity. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities I had at THI to incorporate research, collaboration, and advocacy into one project.

For June and July I worked with the Community Partners Program, a program that assists Texans in signing up for state benefits through an online application at community-based organizations across the state. I researched and contacted potential partners, entered data into the online database, and wrote suggestions to make the website more user-friendly. Beginning in August I started as a research assistant to work with Breakfast in the Classroom research for the Texas Hunger Initiative. I have researched many variables associated with breakfast consumption for elementary school students including: attendance rates, behavior issues, and nutrient intake.

For the Spring of 2013 I worked as a graduate assistant for the Baylor School of Social Work Recruitment/Career Services/Alumni Relations office. During that time I reviewed student resumes, posted job opportunities on the school website, oversaw a licensure workshop, and assisted recruiters with annual events.

I completed my foundation year internship at Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services in Corsicana, Texas. My role in the child and family program included case management services, and instructing parenting classes. During my internship I researched weekend backpack feeding programs for school aged children and before I completed my internship I presented a program proposal and left a copy of the proposal with the agency.
