Growing up in New York City, I have been fortunate to be part of a culturally diverse population. I have had the opportunity to attend school and work alongside many varied races and ethnicities. In addition, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Alicante, Spain during my undergraduate career to fulfill my Spanish minor, as well as experience firsthand the Spanish culture. Additionally, I am currently a substitute teacher in the New York City Department of Education public schools, which has allotted me first hand experience working in a public school environment. This experience made me realize the importance of designing lessons to be flexible so a teacher or speech language pathologist can alter them in the moment to be most effective. This wonderful cultural exposure and my ability to speak Spanish will be invaluable as I develop the knowledge and expertise necessary to become a competent and compassionate speech-language pathologist.My clinical experiences have contributed to my growth as a clinician and as a person throughout the first half of the graduate program for Communication Sciences and Disorders. All my supervisors have provided me with beneficial constructive criticism and feedback on my sessions, as well as the paperwork (e.g., session notes, treatment plans, progress reports) throughout each semester.I believe will my clinical, academic, and personal experiences, I possess the qualities to ultimately become a confident and successful speech language pathologist.
