Hello! My name is Devin Roye, a senior currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance at Hofstra University. My journey in finance began in my junior year, in the spring of 2023 when I took FIN 101—a pivotal moment that shifted my career path from journalism to finance. Since then, I have dedicated myself to expanding my skill sets, focusing on becoming well-rounded in both analytical and communication skills.Starting in the Fall of 2023, I passed the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam and became a Senior Analyst in the Student Managed Investment Fund at Hofstra. We manage a portfolio valued at $467,000, where 4 investment recommendations from myself have been entered into the fund. This role has allowed me to deepen my understanding of financial modeling, equity research, and market analysis. My technical toolkit is strong, including a certification in Python, advanced Excel functions like Power Query and Power Pivot & DAX, as well as proficiency in Bloomberg.Leadership remains a core aspect of my development, as I served as President of Hofstra Ice Hockey. Being the President involves a ton of operational and strategic planning, coupled with building a culture amongst our players. The position has enhanced my ability to lead teams and manage large-scale budgets effectively, complementing my financial expertise.My background in journalism has strengthened my ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and persuasively, a skill I look to expand on in both academic and professional settings. As of June 2024, I started a finance-focused blog called "A Week on Wall Street," where I post weekly market updates and clarify financial topics.
