Crowchild Trail Short Term Improvements | Calgary, AB | 2017 – 2020 | $62MThe Crowchild Trail Short Term Improvement project involves the retrofitting of four bridges, realignment of traffic movements, and upgrades to ancillary roads along a 2.1km corridor in downtown Calgary. Retrofitting of the main bridges includes widening to facilitate the addition of a new traffic lane both northbound and southbound on Crowchild Trail. This involves the construction of new substructure piers, jacketing and widening of existing abutments and piers, as well as the demolition and rehabilitation of the bridges. Superstructure widening requires the installation of new girders and casting of a new deck surface. As Senior Field Engineer, Devin was responsible to facilitate the construction and maintain all traffic movements. He also managed the design and installation of extensive temporary works including elevated work platforms and shoring systems. Working with a team of project coordinators, plans were created to allow the complete removal and replacement of eleven expansion joints across the full width of Crowchild Trail while maintaining the pre-construction level of service through the construction site at all times during daylight hours. This involved the creating of 14 stages of traffic movements on one bridge alone to allow this work to happen.

Senior Project Coordinator | Glenmore Trail Improvements | The City of Calgary | Calgary, AB | 2015 – 2018 | $60 MInitiated by The City of Calgary, this project involved the construction of a new six-lane Glenmore Trail Southeast alignment from the 18th Street Interchange to Barlow Trail Southeast, and a new interchange at Glenmore Trail and Ogden Road including a five-lane, 65-metre-long bridge, a new eight-lane, 125-metre long grade separated crossing for CN Rail, CP Rail and the Western Headworks Canal. Graham self-performed the structure work, and managed subcontractors to complete all associated deep utilities, earthworks, MSE and noise walls, lighting and ITS, roadworks, landscaping decorative hardscaping and public art installation. Canal and rail closures occurred from mid-October to the end of March, and 25 large caissons with pier columns, pier cap, and girders were constructed with full reclamation of the canal in this time window. As Senior Project Coordinator, Devin assisted the Project Manager and Superintendents with the overall project administration and performance. This ranged from project safety and quality management, cost control and tracking, owner/contractor liaison, subcontractor management, progress billing, schedule control, material procurement/logistics, and document control. During the construction period, Graham also self-performed erection of all 70 pre-cast concrete NU girders for the project for which Devin completed planning and subcontractor management. The 70 girders were hoisted on twelve days across three weeks during which there was no lost days to weather or unforeseen setbacks. Devin also created a detailed work plan for the last construction season which involved almost all of the tie-ins of the new alignment to the existing road systems.
