As Director of Innovation, I reported to the CTO with broad license to explore and recommend technologies and methodologies that enabled and expanded engineering capabilities.Stepped in to lead a complex product release cycle involving parallel efforts in operations and development that encompassed a data center move, new hardware and database architecture, and substantial data model redesign. Rescued this multi-million dollar project, delivering successful migration with less than two month delay from original nine month schedule, with zero customer disruption.Orchestrated tricky hot-fix to repair complex degenerate data conditions in OLTP system, with zero downtime.Provided sales engineering support opening a new vertical market on a new continent, worth tens of millions in revenue.Managed several provisional patents, from proposal to application, securing IP protection for core company methods.

As Co-founder and CTO, I was the principal technologist and lead developer for startup CrowdRules.com, a “wisdom of crowds” web application for discovery and vetting of digital content. Responsible for technology evaluation, system architecture, design, and implementation. Led a team of three engineers and contract design shop. In seven months, took project from Flash-demo stage to public beta launch using Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL. Beta platform was fault tolerant and scalable, with deployment and management automation far ahead of the standards of the time.

Lead developer for The Budget Express, a Lotus 123 add-in product sold by Symantec. This facilitated the creation and maintenance of budgets and other financial worksheets with numerous novel features, many of which have since been incorporated into mainstream spreadsheets. Co-inventor of “Spreadsheet Outlining” (US Patent # 5,255,356 “Method for hiding and showing spreadsheet cells”), acquired by Microsoft, cited by over 100 later patent claims.

Released in 1985, Reflex was one of the first IBM-PC products to use a GUI.Contributed to numerous other Borland products such as Turbo C, Turbo Pascal, and Quattro after Borland acquired Analytica.

Engineer on small team responsible for the design and implementation of Reflex: the Analyst, an innovative early PC database and analytic tool. Released in 1985, Reflex was one of the first IBM-PC products to use a GUI. Joined Taurus/Analytica as most junior engineer and rapidly progressed to lead developer for the database, modeling, and memory-management subsystems. Optimized, ported, and maintained CP+, a "user-friendly" menu-driven OS shell for CP/M era computers.
