There are many areas of life that will benefit from advancing the practical applications of cell & tissue engineering, regenerative biology and biomaterials. As a scientist with over 8 years of R&D experience, these frontiers for innovation have guided my interests toward understanding how to control cell specialization and robust tissue formation using biologically-inspired processes and materials.I have helped build cultivated meat companies during early growth (2-10 employees) and commercialization phases (200+), and led research projects that innovated "next-generation" technology in our industry. I have developed several novel processes for fabricating scaffolds and other biomaterials, differentiating and maturing complex tissues, developing specialized media, and improving existing scalable production processes by reducing cost and increasing quality. I have developed procedures to isolate, adapt, characterize and modify primary cell lines from over 20 tissue types across 10 different species including mammals, fish and crustaceans. I have developed a myriad of molecular, biochemical and cell-based assays using advanced microscopy, biomechanical and bioanalytical instrumentation. I have generated intellectual property, filed patent applications, published literature articles and written grant proposals and SOPs in a variety of disciplines. I have a record of managing impactful projects with efficiency and integrity, while coaching junior researchers and collaborating with experts in various fields to achieve research outcomes. I aim to use these qualifications to benefit my future work, support the success of my teams, and contribute to the betterment of society.

Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Illinois College Of Medicine Mar 2018 - Sep 2019I managed a project where we developed a technology platform to produce hydrogel scaffolds that model the salient physical properties of human tissue. We validated and optimized the platform’s fabrication hardware, production workflows and scaffold qualities. As proof-of concept, we used these scaffolds to study MSC mechanotransduction, and developed criteria for using mechanical stimuli to control cell volume regulation, contractile force generation and therapeutic activation… Show more I managed a project where we developed a technology platform to produce hydrogel scaffolds that model the salient physical properties of human tissue. I developed workflows to model protein structures, conduct large molecular dynamics simulations via high-throughput computing, and identify any unexpected structural changes. At that time, I was able to generate some of the longest timescale simulations at atomic resolution, which generated a significant amount of insight into the structural transitions of our protein of interest (calmodulin). Analysis of these simulations uncovered previously-unknown changes in protein structure that became the basis for an awarded grant and an in-depth study. Show less
