Co-founder and leader of a nationally-acclaimed theatre organization, based out of Vancouver and Ottawa, which has developed and produced award-winning professional theatre since 2004. Recent achievements include winning the Best Production award (six nominations in total) at the Prix Rideau Awards, and being nominated for Best Production for the Capital Critics Awards, for recent production of Re:Union at Ottawa’s Magnetic North Theatre Festival. Other significant achievements include: successfully expanding the organization into a two-city operation; leading a strategic shift in programming towards a five-year phase of original creation; initiating and developing multiple international partnerships (U.S., Greenland and Iceland) which have resulted in new projects and productions); spearheading the company’s community outreach Community Outreach Program; and growing the organization’s budget and infrastructure from $10K in 2004/05 to $175K in 2014/15.

Raised over $1,000,000 (plus an additional $650,000 of in-kind contributions) for multiple organizations. These revenues include public sector grants, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, corporate donations and media sponsorships. Grant samples available upon request. More recently, this work has included organizational development and grant writing consultation for small arts organizations.

A nationally-recognized figure in Canadian professional theatre. As a director, my recent production of RE:UNION was nominated for Best Director (Ottawa’s Prix Rideau Awards) and won Best Production. RE:UNION has also been nominated for Best Production for Ottawa’s Capital Critics Awards. Jessie Award-nominated performer and award-winning playwright. As a playwright, I’ve had three plays professional produced in Canada and the U.S. and two plays have been published. I’ve been the playwright-in-residence at theatres in Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa, and have been commissioned by companies in New York City, and the University of Lethbridge. RECENT UPDATES: My last play DAISY received its world premiere production at Seattle's ACT Theatre in July / August 2016. DAISY was nominated for an Outstanding New Play award with Seattle's Gregory Awards. DAISY will be produced in Spring 2018 at Main Street Theatre in Houston, Texas. Two Canadian companies are planning a co-production of DAISY in Fall 2018. DAISY will be published in the US with Dramatists Play Service and in Canada with Talon Books. My newest play WHEN THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO BURN won the Fiction at Fifty competition at the University of Lethbridge, where the play will get its world premiere in November 2017.

Responsible for overseeing all project management, budget management and production coordination of one of the largest Bhangra festivals in North America, overseeing all events for a two-week festival, including outdoor concerts in Vancouver and Surrey. The festival boasts an total audience of over 15,000 and budget of over $200,000.

Nepean

Ran as the federal candidate for the NDP in my home riding of Nepean. After being nominated in the riding’s first contested bid in 22 years, successfully led a grass-roots campaign that significantly increased public profile across the riding. Raised more money, recruited more volunteers, and secured more community endorsements than any previous effort. Public performances, debates and messaging were widely seen as the strongest among all of the riding’s candidates.

Responsible for overseeing all management, coordination, fundraising, programming and marketing for one of Vancouver’s largest annual South Asian performing arts festivals. The festival has grown in the past four years to the point where it now is poised to become a year-round operation and is searching for larger venues and partners to meet capacity needs.

Coordinated all budget management, production management, contract, scheduling, and travel arrangement requirements for multiple programs produced or managed by this successful Vancouver dance service organization. Collaborated with Executive Director on strategic planning and organizational development initiatives. Noteworthy projects include the Made in BC Tour Fall 2010 and Eastern Canada Spring 2011 tours for The 605 Collective and The Response dance companies.

Greater New York City Area

Designed and produced entertaining training scenarios and workshops on conflict resolution, merger management and workplace diversity for Manhattan-based corporate entertainment company. Liaised with client HR departments to assess specific training needs.
