Although this position was an extremely brief one, it not only helped me master my time/task management skills, but also provided me with enough stories to write quite an entertaining book. My number one responsibility above everything else was to collect data within the boundaries that were set for me. The headquarters of the operation was based in California, so my mapping area was uploaded to the computer system in my company assigned car (the assigned car being those funny looking cars with the big camera on the roof that I'm sure all of you have either seen or at least heard about), and the rest was up to me to make sure what needed to get done was actually done. This job was an incredible learning experience for me, since my entire workday was managed by only myself. I was responsible for making sure weather conditions were ideal for mapping, and if they were not, I would let my operations leader know that I would be unable to map for the day. I was also responsible for making sure the portion of my overall mapping area that I was choosing for the day would be efficient and effective in keeping myself on course to complete the entire map in a timely fashion.However, the most important skill I gained from this position is my ability to stay professional in the least ideal situations you could imagine. On an almost daily basis, I was greeted with hostility from people who did not understand what I was doing, and thought I was intruding or invading their privacy. Without breaching a non-disclosure agreement I had with Google (basically, not discussing in detail what I was doing), I managed to make these people understand what I was doing was in no way an invasion of privacy, and still stayed on a timely course to complete not one map, but two (well over a 150 mile perimeter) in just the few short months I was there, despite the constant disruptions.

During my time at Warner Music Group, I interned under Tyson Haller, who is VP of Promotions at Independent Label Group. I prepared weekly radio reports for Tyson, which consisted of the recording of MIS and BDS chart positions (number of spins per week, audience reach, etc...), new adds, sound scan charts, and record sales for artists who did not appear on the sound scan print out. I also prepared mass mailings, where I would package singles being pushed to radio with the corresponding one-sheet, and mail them out to hundreds of radio stations nationwide. These mailings were on a strict and tight deadline, and never once did I let a mailing go out past its deadline. Another responsibility was the placement of music videos using the label's video pool database. When a new video was being released, I would contact all companies in the video pool and inquire about getting the videos placed in all of the outlets at the disposal of these companies (retail stores, cruise ships; essentially anywhere that a TV was visible to customers in the establishment). Also, when needed, I fielded phone calls and emails between interviewers (radio stations, podcasters, blogs, etc...) and artists. Although it was a brief internship, I gained skills in the reading, comprehension, and recording of the progress in radio play, time management (since most of my days were spent juggling multiple responsibilities at once), and a professional rapport with other industry personnel.
