Miles for Smiles- Run. Serve. Smile.I am a blessed man. I have been given so much in my life from my health to my career opportunities to my family. And I have all this out of no merit to myself but I owe it all to the faithful efforts of my parents to raise me and the blessings of the All Mighty. For years I have felt a strong urge to create an opportunity or organization that would serve others and bring joy into their lives. So naturally I looked at things that brought me joy, such as running, and looked for a way to share that same feeling with others. Two years ago after we had our first son I found a way that I could transplant the joy that I felt while running into others. Every morning I would take my son on long runs in his jogging stroller and see him enjoying the scenery, learning words for all the animals that we saw and smiling while waiving at everyone we passed. These runs brought him so much joy partly because he got out of the house and got active. Surely there were other runners that wanted to share their joy right? And surely there were individuals that for what ever reason couldn't get out and run right? So I thought, "Lets put those two groups together and see how many smiles we can create". And sure enough the response from runners wanting to serve others has been phenomenal. And the organizations that support groups of disabled adults and children have hailed it as a wonderful opportunity for these individuals to get out and participate in the community. They have been so grateful to see athletes and members of the community come together to support these disabled individuals and remind them of how special they are. My motivation to continue organizing events for Miles for Smiles is somewhat selfish in that each smile I play a part in creating either for the runner or the wheelchair rider amplifies the joy I get from running. And it reminds me that I would be nowhere without the help of others assisting me through life.
