I wanted to expand my Electrical Engineering knowledgebase from the sub-24VDC world, to the sub-transmission world. In Building Electrical, I began working with devices and equipment that utilized voltages from 120 VAC - 480 VAC. I learned the various voltages utilized by different types of equipment, and I began to familiarize myself with NEC code. I worked in a variety of disciplines while working in Building Electrical. My experiences were focused on designing Power Distribution, Security/Fire Alarm Layouts, IDF/MDF Network Layouts, Lighting Layouts, Switchgear and Transformer Sizing, Load calculations and anything else that is required to power, light and protect a food processing facility.

I began my Electrical Engineering career working as a Automation and Controls Engineer. My first project was designing the Human Machine Interface screens utilized within (2) manufacturing production lines for the client, The J.M. Smucker company. I worked for 3 months developing, testing and verifying the operation/layout of the screens. Then I traveled to the client's site in Tennessee to commission and install the developed software. While on-site, I worked with troubleshooting valves, commissioning a SCADA system and IP addressing everything from meters to motors. The project was fully functional after two weeks of commissioning, and I began working another project, with similar content and process flow.

In 2013, the Springfield Public Schools began working alongside Harvard EdLabs, an educational consulting firm with a successful track record turning around underperforming schools in Massachusetts. As a result, the Springfield Public Schools hired nearly 100 tutors to help the school system with Mathematics. I was hired in the summer of 2013 and was very excited to share my newfound joy for Math with the students at The High School of Commerce (HSC). Employment as a tutor for seven periods a day was a great opportunity for me. I was able to explore my true understanding of Algebra, improve my leadership skills and learn about how different groups of people experience education in America. I volunteered with Upward Bound while working at HSC and I helped develop a weekly after school Robotics program. I am proud to receive Electrical Engineering questions from a former student who currently studies at Umass-Amherst. I was sincerely lucky to be a part of this program and it helped prepare me to perform well in my Electrical Engineering studies.
