About Devin Cross

I have 10+ years of professional experience across a range of positions and industries. My own startup Social Quiztancing was featured in Denver Startup Week, and I have worked at a non-profit (Make-A-Wish) and a non-profit startup (Plentiful) in addition to working in education at a technology startup as well as an elementary school as director of communications. This non-traditional journey has given me remarkable breadth, but I am eager to focus my career in the direction where my true passion lies: film and writing. With a multidisciplinary academic foundation from Duke University and eclectic experience in the nonprofit, social entrepreneurship, and education technology fields, I have brought a wide-ranging perspective to bridge the gaps that often exist between analytics, operations, sales, finance, content, marketing, IT, and management roles. Then, I left all that behind at the beginning of the pandemic to make a career shift and start a remote trivia company, which maximized my creativity to offer unique and fun, live game experiences. It started as a weekly game for family and friends to raise money for the food insecure at the beginning of the pandemic before the demand increased for quizzes for companies and workplaces, and it became a full-fledged business. Our success is primarily down to the high-quality production value and content. Strong theming and a team-building focus have enabled many professional and social groups to partake in trivia that is not just "you-know-it-or-you-don't" but rather more puzzle-oriented quizzing. Q&A, Audio, Visual rounds are supplemented by signature word smash formats and three different types of unique film/movie rounds. As the pandemic waned, so did demand for virtual activities. Social Quiztancing is still operating! But in the meantime, I went to work for Plentiful to more directly assist the food insecure in addition to the trivia donations. Now, I'm excited to be looking for roles closer to writing and film. My skill, proficiency, and volunteer experience include Salesforce, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Writing (Novel/Trivia), Filmmaking/Editing (Director/Screenwriter/Editor of 82-minute feature Shortcuts & 15-minute short Il Personaggio Misterioso), Research, People Management, Outreach, Community Development, Final Cut, Bilingual English/Spanish, Problem Solving, Strategic Planning, Public Speaking, AirTable, Product Management Software (GitHub, Jira), Notion, MailChimp, ZenDesk, TextIt, Zapier, Amazon Quicksight, Miro, Copper, Cruciverbalism (Crossword-writing), Denver Film Fest Volunteer

socialquiztancingco.comA virtual remote trivia company offering interactive, engaging quizzes. These events mirror the traditional pub trivia nights, but are conducted over Zoom. Utilizing a highly produced combination of breakout rooms and digital answer forms, Social Quiztancing does not sacrifice any of the interaction one would experience between team members at a bar, so that geographically disparate groups can participate in a non-spectative, fun activity. (Please feel free to DM for details on how to get a group of friends together for a free trivia night that is offered weekly with a suggested donation)• Write and produce all quiz questions (6,000+) and rounds. • Innovate unique game experiences with trademark rounds. These are delivered in multiple different formats: Standard question-and-answer, music, video, visual, escape room race, crossword puzzle, word ladder, movie puzzle, and many more.• Utilize clever theming and puzzle theory/creation to maximize group participation. This way, the trivia is not you-know-it or-you-don't, but rather the answer can be puzzled out in multiple ways. • MC of events, toggling the teams between the larger main group and their own team breakout, all while also conducting live scoring and standings for peak competitive play• Deliver the quiz to companies, starting during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a way to help them engage their workforce and maintain company culture with a participative event even when the majority are working remotely• Additionally, offer a weekly non-corporate quiz for general fun with a suggested philanthropic donation to a wide-variety of non-profits
