I completed an enriching internship at the Nanobiotechnology Laboratory, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), where I gained hands-on experience with Caenorhabditis elegans and bacterial cultures. This opportunity allowed me to build a strong foundation in key laboratory techniques and deepen my understanding of molecular biology. My training encompassed: • Nanodrop Spectrophotometry: Mastered the use of Nanodrop for accurate quantification of nucleic acids and proteins, essential for downstream applications such as PCR and RNA sequencing. • Plating and Synchronization of C. elegans: Acquired skills in culturing C. elegans, including synchronization techniques to study specific developmental stages with precision. • Serial Dilution and Bacterial Enumeration: Developed expertise in serial dilution methods to enumerate bacterial populations, ensuring accurate microbial counts for experimental consistency. • Media Preparation: Gained hands-on experience in preparing various culture media, which is critical for maintaining optimal growth conditions for both C. elegans and bacterial cultures. • RNA Isolation: Trained in the isolation of RNA, a crucial step in gene expression studies and molecular biology research. • Microbial Handling: Learned best practices for the safe and efficient handling of microbial cultures, essential for maintaining sterile laboratory conditions and preventing contamination.Additionally, I participated in demonstrations and applied these techniques in real-world scenarios, which enhanced my practical understanding of laboratory protocols. This internship has significantly boosted my technical skills and prepared me for advanced research in biotechnology and molecular biology.
