Profile bio

About Dev Julien

I tell the stories of New York City communities through extensive research, data analysis, literature reviews, and policy memos. My journey into policy research and data is nearly two decades in the making, from my own experiences navigating limited high-quality educational options as the child of immigrants in Brooklyn, to my five years in the classroom as a teacher through massive school turnaround and COVID-19, to my graduate work in Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy at NYU. I possess a track record of success in developing tools, resources, and best practices that dramatically impacted student achievement and school climate, and compelled senior leaders to implement org-wide roll-outs through research-informed proposals. As a former educator at Achievement First, I designed a restorative justice curriculum and created a blueprint for school-wide implementation. During my time at the New York DOE, I built and cultivated external partnerships with advocates to set recommendations to improve city-wide education, including writing a policy memo for former NYC DOE Chancellor Richard Carranza discussing issues and solutions to the high percentage of middle school English Language Learner (ELL) dropouts. In addition to my work at Achievement First and the New York DOE, I completed a policy fellowship with the National Fellowship for Black and Latino Male Educators and serve on the organization’s board. My work in research and policy is deeply informed by my experiences in the classroom; I’m energized by the opportunity to advance educational equity at scale through data-informed storytelling.

Listed skills include Mathematics, Collaborative Problem Solving, Research And Development, Public Speaking, and 24 others.
