Currently working on the Chevron Richmond Refinery Hydrogen Plant Modernization Project performing Structural Inspections and Final Permit Closures

I am currently performing QC for the Griffith/Coffman Joint Venture at Los Angeles International Airport for an extension of one of the existing runways and new taxiways. Inspections include: FAA specifications P-152, P-153, P-208, P-219, P-403, P-501, P-610 & P-620.

Supervise and coordinate the excavation and grading of commercial, residential, and industrial work sites for the development of new construction including: demolition and retrofit, concrete structures, storm drain, sewer, and roadways.

Operate and direct the over excavation and re-compaction of commercial, residential and industrial developments utilizing various types of heavy construction equipment.

Started my tenure with C.W. Poss at the Sand Canyon Housing Development Phases 4 & 5 performing rough/finish grading. This project required routine blasting due to the stable bedrock across the site. All foundations were over-excavated 10’ to stable bottom. I utilized onsite survey control staking to ensure over-excavation limits were maintained. As finish grade checker, I utilized dual plane laser control system to fine grade housing lots up to 22,000 square feet. Worked with a team of highly skilled Operating Engineers moving 100’s of cubic yards of materials per day to complete the development ahead of schedule with few corrections. Completed my tenure at the Frank L. Bowerman Bee Canyon Landfill Phase 9 providing grade checking for the finish grading operations. Utilized GPS and laser grade technology to install the phase 9 leachate system, 2’ clay layer, and synthetic liner system. Aided in the construction of HDPE for the leachate system and temporary storm drain diversion line.

Worked as a rough/finish grade checker for Ebensteiner Co. on a massive housing development in Santa Clarita. Worked on a large scale mass grading operation with up to 100 Operating Engineers moving ~ 25,000 cubic yards of Earth per day. Set grade staking for cut/fill transitions, buttress cut excavations, canyon clean outs, cut slopes and structural fill placement. As ground personnel, ensured cut slopes were shaped a 2:1 slope ratio or per survey staking. Set fill slope staking per survey. Ensured fill placement to proper elevation. Utilized civil grading plans to ensure correct over-excavation elevations were achieved per plan. Set up laser grading technology to finish grade housing pads to blue top elevation per plan. Set grading hubs for finish grading equipment at proper line and elevation for property line, toe/ top of slope. Ensured all lot lines, slopes, drainage swales, and paving sections were cut to within acceptable tolerance to line and grade.

As an Operating Engineer in local Union #12 performed grade checking for the General Contractor Van Dyk Engineering on a large housing development. Utilized laser grading technology to set grade stakes for line and elevation. Worked as a Grade Checker/Foreman on multiple industrial, commercial and private construction projects mainly in the housing development sector or commercial building sector. Performed layout and grade staking for multiple large and small scale rough and finish grading operations throughout southern California. Utilized survey staking to set up first move mass grading operations ensuring over-excavations were extended 5’ beyond the building envelope and to proper depth. Set grade hubs for fine grading operations for flatwork, hardscape, and paving sections. Responsible for ensuring all structural fill placement achieved proper compaction requirements and moisture conditioning for structural fill & backfill. Ensured geotechnical requirements were maintained by ensuring heavy equipment operators scarified and moisture conditioned sub-grade prior to fill placement. Prior to the advent of GPS, utilized laser grading technology and machine control to finish grade sub-developments and large scale tilt-up construction. Led a team of up to 15 skilled tradesmen in the Laborers union and Operating Engineers Union Local 12. Ensured all grading elevations were maintained within allowable tolerance for horizontal and vertical deviation from approved plans. Coordinated with QC testing that all compaction requirements were achieved.
