About Devon Gardner

As I am just starting off my career, I often describe myself to people as an academic entrepreneur. In all honesty, I am an entrepreneur in education. I love to learn and am willing to learn anything. Today, we are entering a world where information is not only free and easily accessible globally, but also changing rapidly by the day. What was once valued today may as well be obsolete tomorrow. Learning new information and using it in productive ways, is the way of the future.Information itself has no value, but the ability to use information in creative ways, is. The pattern of life is now modeled after the path of cyclic learning. Learning new skills and trades, using them, then learning more modern skills and trades is becoming the life blood of the developing world. For example, this may involve learning another software for project management or applying a more modern and advanced machine learning technique to some predictive modeling. Whatever the case may be, I am open to learning and experimenting with new things and using them innovative ways. I live by this quote that, through my experience, I have personally coined: “for every finite problem, there are infinite creative solutions.”My own personal, more academic, passions include data science and analytics and physics. These two disciplines, I think, are the very key to understanding how the systems that operate our world work and how we can then use to create solutions to our daily problems. These ventures and passions are what drive me and keep me up at night. Simply put, I have an insatiable, never ending desire to use information to create solutions to the benefit of humankind.To me, what is most important is not what you know but your ability to learn and to apply what you know. It is what you don’t see, the learning, the enduring and the trial and error that goes behind the scenes, while the final result is merely the by-product of that unseen effort. With all my technical skills and educational background, I know that these principles are the key to success in any organization in our evolving present world.
