Nicaragua

Worked both autonomously and collaboratively with in-country program manager and executive director to develop and implement trial impact assessment plan for pedestrian footbridges constructed by Bridges to Prosperity. Completed initial secondary research; design, implementation and iteration of assessment methods; and data collection. Subsequently used in-country experience, coupled with extensive research, to write master’s project report on issues and possible solutions associated with assessing impact of community development projects. Before beginning internship, also completed Bridges to Prosperity “Technical Mentor Training” on footbridge design and construction.

Boulder, Colorado

Teaching assistant and resident advisor for students from two Residential Academic Programs (RAPS): Sustainable by Design (SbD) & Social Entrepreneurship for Equitable Development & Sustainability (SEEDS). Facilitated class discussions, held office hours, and graded daily assignments as a teaching assistant. Also acted as a resident advisor to many of the same students, living alongside them in the new, LEED-Platinum residence hall on campus.

Worked in structural department, primarily on bridge design, rating, and inspection. Collaborated with other junior engineers on calculations for bridge design and rating. Was also involved in the full spectrum of work for bridge inspections, from field inspection to report preparation, writing, and editing.

Assisted with data collection, manipulation, & analysis on a variety of projects, including multiple litigation cases dealing with underground pipe failures. Spent a significant amount of time in the lab, preparing and completing lab tests, evaluating results, and analyzing failure specimens from litigation cases. Involved with outgoing reports, from memo writing to final report review and revision.

Primarily worked with AutoCad and Excel to complete preliminary calculations and drawings for concrete water tanks. As time progressed, collaborated closely with engineers on final tank drawings and calculations, while also playing primary role in training new co-ops. Allowed to problem-solve, both autonomously and with engineers on variety of tank issues.
