Devon Kirkpatrick is a trans non-binary writer working in film, TV and the commercial world. Most recently, they were a staff writer on Fox’s upcoming narrative series RESCUE: HI SURF (to be released in Fall of 2024). As a writer, Devon sold and wrote Next Wave, a narrative hour-long drama pilot inspired by the life of Keala Kennelly and the North Shore’s big wave surf world to USA Network. They have also assisted many showrunners on series and pilots such as HBO MAX’s Ke Nui Road and Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. They're currently in development on a handful of narrative television projects, THE HI LIFE with author Kaui Hart Hemmings, ANDY with Anne Carson, and Seahorse, a dark comedy pilot, which was featured in Deadline as one of 2022’s best unproduced pilot scripts by queer writers (as selected by Out in Hollywood).Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Devon began their TV career in New York as the Writers’ Assistant, Script Coordinator and Showrunner’s assistant on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie. They've also worked on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and was an associate producer on the NBC pilot Girlfriend in a Coma and scouted locations for MAGNUM PI.As a Director, Devon is an alumni of the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women, the Ryan Murphy Half Foundation (where they shadowed Gwyneth Horder-Payton on Versace), Film Independent's FAST TRACK, and IFP (now Gotham New York). Their short film Ma/ddy made a splash in over 50 film festivals both nationally and internationally after premiering at LACMA's Young Directors’ Night hosted by Elvis Mitchell. As a writer, they’ve adapted the YA horror novel Bleeding Earth for Adaptive Studios. They are the recipient of the prestigious San Francisco Film Society Screenwriting grant for their feature, The Seahorse. In between writing and development projects, Devon has directed a slate of commercial projects with clients spanning the Royal Bank of Canada, Target and the FDA as well as music videos. They've also worked as a creative copywriter for Hi5 agency, where they collaborated on the creative campaign for Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" Season 5 and other high profile film and TV projects.As an artist and advocate for LGBTQ causes, Lexus and Queerty featured Devon in their series Going Places, where they shared their thoughts about the importance of stories featuring gender non-conforming protagonists.
