Field based position to assist the Restoration Coordinator in a statewide assessment of aquatic barriers (dam and culverts) in the state of Minnesota. Primary responsibilities include: assisting in topographic field surveys of stream barriers (dams/culverts) and surrounding conditions (water surfaces, stream features and bank conditions), obtaining contact information and calling landowners for access permission, data entry, and restoration monitoring.

As a research assistant, I worked one semester with the librarians on campus to preserve, scan, and catalog a unique set of aerial photographs. I also created several interactive maps hosted on their website so user's can easily see the coverage of the photographs as well as the call numbers for accessing the appropriate photos. Another semester was spent, working on project funded by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.The primary objective of this work was to help them make an informed, unbiased decision on the potential effectiveness of invasive carp barriers on the Minnesota River. This project directed my thesis topic which involved remotely analyzing historic planform change on Minnesota River as well as considering the error and uncertainty involved in this type of research.As a teaching assistant I taught the labs for: GIS for Professionals (2 semesters), Introduction to GIS (5 semesters), Digital Field Mapping with GPS (1 semester), Python Programming (1 semester). I also was responsible for running a month long applied GIS project for Fluvial Geomorphology and Hydrology which culminated with published posters presentations at national conferences (2 semesters).

MinnAqua is and education outreach program that teaches participants recreational angling, stewardship, basic aquatic habitat ecology and conservation. The primary tasks completed included coordinating and creating individualized programs for different groups and organizations based on their needs and time available. Other opportunities included research days spent gillnetting, tagging, electroshocking, and a class on handling timber rattlesnakes.
