I began my nursing career at the University of Windsor. From day one I began developing the essential skills that I would use to create a large foundation to support my ever increasing knowledge of nursing. Over the next 4 years of literal blood, sweat, and tears, I graduated with an accumulation of over 1000 clinical hours.As a new graduate seeking vast adventures and travel opportunities, all while gaining valuable nursing experience, I quickly attained my first “real job” in Nebraska! I was excited, ready for the adventure to begin, and could not wait to see all that Nebraska had to offer me. Coming from Canada, I didn’t understand why Nebraska’s State slogan is, ‘Honestly, it’s not for everyone’. My opportunity to work at Chadron Community Hospital, a small critical access facility with 28 med-surge beds, 3 ER beds, and 1 trauma bay has allowed me to become a well-rounded and developed nurse who is competent with facility policies and procedures. I am able to adapt to many specialties of nursing, including: med-surge, ER, OB, and pre/post op. Three of my strengths are:1. Emergency preparedness – Actively participated in successful code blue and stroke with my roles including initial crisis diagnostics (vitals, EKG’s, rhythm interpretation), IV starts with med admin, airway and hemodynamic stabilization, and rapid transfer of critically patients. 2. Effective continuity of care – Work with a multidisciplinary team including the patient and their family members, MD, RN, PT/OT, lab, and radiology. I strive to effectively communicate with my colleagues about ongoing patient outcomes and developments with a focus on patient centered care.3. Critical continuous patient monitoring – Experience with a variety of drips, including, insulin, diltiazem, heparin, and nitroglycerin. Efficient in monitoring patients on continuous telemetry, epidurals and, and PCA pumps. Assisted with conscious sedation for cardioversion and shoulder reductions. TNKase and tPA admin.
