Hi, my name is Devon. I am a Florida Space Coast native, engineering graduate, and space exploration enthusiast. In 2021, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Physics from Florida Tech. In spring 2023, I completed my Master of Science degree in Space Systems from Florida Tech. I am currently seeking opportunities to contribute to the space industry as an aerospace engineer (related to space flight dynamics, orbital mechanics, or navigation) or a mechanical engineer in the Brevard County, Florida area.My interests are space robotics, rover systems, lander systems, In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), lunar & Mars exploration, deep space probes, space propulsion systems, and CubeSats. From my academics, I have had space mission design experience with thermal control systems (TCS), spacecraft structures, rover and spacecraft configuration, spacecraft environments, astrodynamics, and electrical power systems (EPS).

- Collaborated with 6 graduate students on Zoom and Google Workspace to design a space mission proposal to collect and transport icy regolith from the lunar South Pole via a rover and lander system.- Iterated temperature calculations in Excel to select the passive and active thermal control techniques for the required operating temperature limits of the rover system between 0 to 45 degrees Celsius.- Identified in Word the significant space environment effects the spacecraft system will encounter during the mission to provide design recommendations to mitigate the effects from 7 different environments.- Configured the layout of 53 rover system components to address the criteria from 7 subsystems and prepared a Computer Aided Design (CAD) model of the rover with Autodesk Inventor.- Performed preliminary loads analysis calculations in Excel to design the spacecraft’s regolith storage system to avoid failure due to axial compression and buckling from the launch vehicle loads.- Estimated a first cut mass budget for the spacecraft’s 9 subsystems using the max payload mass from the lander system to ensure the spacecraft remains within the launch vehicle’s payload mass allocation.- Conducted 3 subsystem trade studies to select resistive patch heaters over variable radioisotope heater units (RHUs) for thermal control and aluminum alloys over steel materials for spacecraft structures.

Florida Tech/ NASA KSC CubeSat Research of Plants Platform (CROPP) Capstone Design Project: Note: This is a Florida Tech Capstone Design Project sponsored by NASA's Kennedy Space Center.- Collaborated on a team of 10 students of various disciplines to design a satellite bus, and fabricate a science payload prototype, and receiving ground station to support Kennedy Space Center’s (KSC) plant research efforts.- Developed the electronics layout for the science payload prototype for senior design showcase and generated wiring diagrams for fabrication this semester. - Wired and soldered electronics for science payload prototype including: 2 NEMA stepper motors, 12 peristaltic pumps, 4 strips of 6500 K LEDS, 2 Arduino Uno microcontrollers, and 2 linear actuators.- Conducted 7 sub-component test for the science payload prototype to observe and demonstrated the system can verify our system requirements.- Designed the top level layout for the CubeSat Research of Plants Platform (CROPP) Electrical Power System (EPS) for the satellite bus. - Performed analytical calculations for the bus’s solar array mass and sizing to meet the power and mission requirements. - Co-authored the System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Design and Verification Report with focus on the Con-Ops, Electrical Power System Technical Approach, and Science Payload Prototype Testing Details. - Developed Concept of Operations for payload science experiment ideas to evaluate feasibility of mission.- Prepared weekly meeting agendas and clearly document minutes for team members and advisors.
