Devon Patton feels a special connection to the Central New York community. A proud graduate of Syracuse University, Devon received a four-year track and field scholarship and became a Big East Champion in the 400-meter hurdles. Lettering all four years during his career at Syracuse, Devon ranked in the top 20 of 400 hurdlers in the country, qualifying for the Olympic trials. Devon’s life in Central New York has continued to flourish ever since, settling in Jamesville with his wife and and children in 2018.Before returning to the home of his beloved alma mater as a Spectrum News 1 Reporter in 2018, Devon spent the early years of his career working first behind the scenes as a production assistant in Philadelphia and then as a photojournalist/editor in Bluefield, West Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina. His first on-air opportunity would come during his time in North Carolina, followed by reporter and anchor roles in Kentucky, Nebraska, and Louisiana. A veteran of the television news industry, Devon appreciates the power of storytelling. Fondly looking back on the relationship he forged with a family in Nebraska while covering their daughter’s disappearance, Devon appreciates the unique opportunities he’s had to connect with the many communities he’s called home.Even the snowiest days won’t stop Devon from getting to the Carrier Dome and cheering on the Syracuse’s men’s basketball team. However, when he’s not out in ‘Cuse country, you can find Devon exploring the many historical sites iconic to Central New York, enjoying the rich culture of diversity that continues to thrive in the community today. In his freetime, Devon enjoys exploring the area’s hiking trails and waterfalls, in addition to the vibrant restaurant scene!
