Oyster.com specializes in providing professional reviews and photos of mid to high-end hotels and is scaling rapidly. Jetsetter is a flash-sale hotel site focused on aspirational travel content. My role has several facets:1. Build and maintain analytical and data engineering infrastructure2. Build models and algorithms for site/marketing optimization and budgeting3. Develop reports and insights to improve site and operations efficiency(1) I built and maintain our reporting infrastructure that uses Looker, a YAML and postgresql-based data exploration tool. Content and user data is moved using Python ETLs in Airflow. Site traffic data is captured using Snowplow Analytics and then combined with operational data and processed on Amazon Redshift. I have worked closely with operations and business users to construct appropriate dashboards, automated email reports, and exploration sandboxes for their needs.(2) I use R, Spark, and Python to build predictive models of various parts of the business. A few of the models I've built help predict:- Collaborative filtering location, hotel, article, and image recommenders- Incremental search visits and conversions from hotel editorial reviews- Incremental international traffic from hotel-specific translations- On-site search sort conversion- Next FY quarterly revenue(3) Some new products I've worked on include: - New hotel sorting on search results pages (resulted in 14% lift in conversion)- Hotel translation recommendations (observed 16% lift in conversion rate and 100% lift in foreign language traffic in 3 months)- Hotel editorial review prioritization queue based on expected incremental revenue using generalized boosted regression model- On-site 'also viewed'​ hotel recommendations (expanded feature's coverage by 3X)- Regional segmentation and content recommendations for Jetsetter users
