Straightening and grinding of petrol and small diesel crankshafts. Minor maintenance on the machine I use. Stock taking (I'm in charge of making sure the tool cupboard I make use of has all of it's tool returned by day's end). Beginning of 2016 I was moved to reboring. I rebore, resleeve and skim engine blocks. 2018 I was moved to lineboring. Lineboring of main bearing housings, cylinder heads, auxiliary shafts housings and hydrovanes. I do short subs on various motors (fitting crank and pistons), skim flywheels and do some fitting and turning on the lathe.

I continued reboring blocks. I was briefly put in cylinder head section, but then had to work in both blocks and heads. I did more welding in my free time (arc welding) and did minimal lathe work as someone was hired to do the lathe work. I was later moved to conrod section and resized conrods and fitted and machined small-end bushes. June 2014 I went to go qualify by Remtec in Port Elizabeth. I maintained machines as I did by VSK Motor Engineering.

North End, East London

My first position was in cylinder head section, overhauling, cleaning, refacing valves, cutting seats, setting shims, skimming and assembling cylinder heads. 2007 I was moved to engine blocks. My job description was then re-boring, honing and resleeving blocks. In my free time I learned to re-size conrods and fit and machine small-end bushes. I left VSK September 2010 and returned February 2012 and continued on blocks. My responsibilities then rose to doing sub-assemblies (fitting the crankshaft and conrods in the block), changing camshaft bearings and general lathe work (making over-size thrust washers for blocks, seats for cylinder heads and over-size small-end bushes). I continued Re-sizing conrods in my free time and then started to learn crankshaft grinding once I became comfortable with conrods. I figured out how to basically use a milling machine too. September 2013 VSK closed and I got moved to KWT Motor Engineering, VSK's sister company. I also maintained the machines I used, periodic cleaning and making sure oil and water levels were correct, and also replacement and adjustment of stones on skimming machine.

Cambridge Goodsheds, East London

Servicing of vehicles, removal and installation of engines, cylinder heads, gearboxes, sideshafts, driveshafts, engine conversions, towing of broken down vehicles and readying vehicles for roadworthy. I worked on cars, bakkies and trucks. I also had to collect and deliver customer vehicles. Stainless steel and CO2 welding was necessary as I had to fabricate turbo pipes and stabilizer bars, and cut and weld exhaust pipes.
