ERCOT•Managed a series of RHEL 5, 6, 7 servers 1,200 of them. • Provided the proper maintenance and updates to RHEL systems using Ansible and Python scripts to automate the process. • Work with Atlassian software, Jira ticketing system • Built our own monitoring system to monitor the servers we owned using the GreyLog application with an elastic search back end to monitor our logs • Puppet was used to configure our entire infrastructure and provisioned any new build that was requested. • Managed the EMS platform which controls all of the Electrical power grids in the entire state of Texas and managed and aided with thee build of the Geo Location software which monitored the winds and electrical currents in the state of Texas • Utilized various network protocols TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, ARP, ICMP and FTP/SFTP • Utilized AWS for our infrastructure, using EC2 to provision and deploy our linux server instances. Mitigated EC2 instances to different VPC’s and sub-nets across different availability zones.Accomplishments at ERCOT • Successfully wrote python(3.5) scripts to provide basic information about the RHEL servers in our infrastructure from the kernel versions(2.6.18-398, 2.6.32-745, 3.10.0-693) all the way down to the servers configuration so that would include CPU, Memory, Cores, Processors and etc. • Successfully used Ansible to automate our infrastructure updates to all of the RHEL servers. We were able to 1,200 servers at once and we did it one data center at a time, this alleviated the need to manually ssh into every server and perform a yum update as the root user. • Successfully used Ansible to also ping and gather statistics as to how the updates were proceeding. If anything failed Ansible would give us an indication of that failure and we would the further troubleshoot that issue and proceed to log into that particular server that failed.
