Bakken Medical Device Center, I am part of a team working with healthcare professionals to develop a novel open-source, economically viable, and reusable humidifier chamber to support economically disadvantaged hospitals. Using CAD packages alongside SLA 3D printers, I prototype and iterate on chamber designs to ensure functionality and adherence to project goals.

During my summer internship at Silk Road Medical, I developed and implemented test methods to drive medical device innovation. I created a test method and an automated Excel database to analyze the flow characteristics of a prototype catheter-based Class II medical device, driving a design change for Phase I concept selection. Additionally, I developed a test method based on ASTM and ISO standards to characterize the mechanical and degradation properties of bioresorbable materials, aiding in the development of a Class III medical device. I also contributed to various R&D projects by fabricating prototype devices for benchtop testing, animal studies, and cadaver studies, as well as refining SOLIDWORKS models and drawings.

In my summer internship, I worked to redesign an existing mechanical test fixture for the Shakopee Fiber Optics Test Lab. The objectives for the redesign were to streamline parts sourcing and select parts that allow for future automation capabilities while cutting costs. The outcomes of this project were a 57% parts cost reduction, a 9% total cost reduction, a 50% faster shipping, and a 68% increase in machine accuracy.
