Environmental responsibility is more important now than it ever has been. In college I became captivated by our interaction with the environment, the influence humans have on earth’s biogeochemical processes, and the sustainable practices required to mitigate our impact. As an engineer, I see myself as a liaison between humans and our surroundings. My duty is to understand the environmental impact of a project while also developing a design that effectively and fiscally solves the problem for the client.¬My 3 years of civil engineering experience taught me many things specific to the industry, but the most important lessons I learned were the soft skills required to thrive in a workplace. Collaborating with engineers outside my discipline forced me to communicate my design clearly and concisely to ensure our individual designs worked together, while working with contractors and clients forced me to ask direct questions and give straightforward answers that everyone involved could understand. I want to work in a collaborative environment where I can get face to face with clients and peers to figure out solutions that best fit all parties. I’m motivated by the opportunity to use my interpersonal skills and building relationships. A key to successfully executing projects is comfortable and reliable communication, and building strong relationships is the first step to establishing that type of communication. I am proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D, ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro, and Microsoft office products. My specialties include hydrologic analysis, watershed delineation, site development, and stormwater infrastructure inspection. I am always excited to develop new skills within engineering, and eager to learn about industries outside engineering.
