Toba Montrose - Mtc Rockslide Project

Managing all aspects of construction execution for the MTC Rockslide Project in the Toba Valley.With the remote aspects of the project logistics played a major role in the successful completion of the project. All manpower (management team, sub trades and craft) were required to transport via float plane or water taxi. All communications were made solely by satellite with phones and email which the west coast weather played havoc with on occasion. All materials and equipment were required to be barged into the valley and then transported to the project site.This project was an insurance repair / rehabilitation project to ensure that the owner could return to generating power through the newly replaced penstock. There was a strong safety culture established and executed by the CM team with support from the owner's operations team. Environmental controls were in place to mitigate any impacts to the natural beauty of the valley.

Worked as site project manager for the Early Works (phase 1) projects at the Fort Hills Mine Site in Northern Alberta.Assisted in the completion of the Construction Camp CORE Building.Completed phase 2 of the Waste Water Treatment Plant Foundation and developed the construction management portion of the Deep Undergrounds (phase 1) around the CORE Building SILO. Requirements included the control of costs, change management and management of crews, directing organizing and scheduling work and procuring materials.There was a heavy emphasis on HSE, Quality and Change Management processes.

Worked to generate the definition of scope for contractors, determined impact of existing operations on the demolition and layout of new areas for massive terminal wide modernization for the largest ferry company in the world. Worked in the challenging environment between contractors, operations, maintenance and other stakeholders where contract and design knowledge, hands-on management, site inspections, consultant design reviews, budgeting and scheduling remained critical for the projects success. Worked closely with others in the management team as well as at times as many as 5 general contractors to coordinate problem free efforts whilst keeping an operating ferry terminal running during year round operation. Projects on site included a 55,000 T shore line infill, road and civil works for a new intersection, parking lots, toll plaza and employee parking areas. Rehab and removal of old cuttings from previous saw mill operations dating back to the 1920's. Demolition and construction of a new modernized foot passenger ticket building, baggage handling, retail building and foot passenger waiting room were all apart of my scope of work for this project.

Proposal writing, site inspections to define scope, client liaison and project management for various industrial clients as relating to the Pulp and Paper and Forestry Industries on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Scheduled work for other staff in the group. Developed, completed and implemented a design and drawing checking methodology to reduce fabrication confusion and costly on-site modifications. Performed routine site inspections for various projects throughout the mid-island area. Developed and implemented office drafting standards for multi-disciplinary group of 50 staff to reduce rework, project overhead and develop a company standard to design regardless of application or discipline. Suggested and help develop many internal process improvements as related to a structural design office.

As lead structural design draftsman developed office standards and methodologies for the implementation of structural frames over combustion turbine facilities and other acoustical enclosure requirements. Scheduled work for other staff members in drafting group and checked designs to ensure clients' needs were addressed in the solution provided.

As one of the intermediate structural technicians was required to develop final design drawings for concrete foundation and piling. Provided AutoCAD R14 support for the multi-disciplinary design team of 45 people.

In four years quickly developed a skill set that allowed for quick advancement inside the original Reid Crowther and Partners Ltd. (RCPL) Calgary office. Adapted old well thought-out methodologies from the board drafting days and applied them to the digital environment. Was a defining member of the RCPL's AutoCAD customization group which standardized the company's offices in Alberta. Was encouraged to participate in client meetings and construction site inspections where long standing relationships were developed between contractors and consultants.
