Malawi Mangoes
Malawi
As the acting Director of Irrigation and Water Development for Malawi Mangoes, Devon oversaw the operations of a large scale agribusiness start-up from feasibility, through funding acquisition, to operations and eventually handover, over a three year period. Duties included division development, project and team design, planning, hiring, training, management, budgeting, and administration of all aspects of irrigation and community water access activities tackled by Malawi Mangoes. His primary goal was to design, build and staff the division of Malawi Mangoes to be managed by Malawians. Finding innovative solutions for business start-up challenges in a cross cultural setting, identifying local talent, modelling inclusive and sustainable leadership, and providing excellent on-sight training were his specialities. Malawi Mangoes is now a fully operating Agri-processor using a unique community supply hybrid model to process over 40,000 metric tonnes of fruit puree per year. By purchasing fruit from small holder farmers and managing over 1000ha of their own farm lands MM is proving a mutually beneficial inclusive business model which reduces risk in the supply chain while directly supporting development through the employment of rural Malawi Farmers. It was a pleasure working with MM over the last few years. Devon and the rest of the team at Guerrilla Consulting wish them the best of success in the rest of their endeavours.
