I am a DevOps Engineer currently helping businesses deploy and manage their infrastructure and applications with Amazon Web Services. 20 years of IT experience has allowed me to continuously increase my knowledge and improve my skills. I am also a member of the AWS "All 9 Club" by holding all 9 of the AWS Certifcations.I believe that DevOps should provide solutions that allow deployments to be almost "self-service" to the developer. A good DevOps department provides tools so a developer can simply add a few deployment parameters in their repo, and the system built by DevOps handles the rest for them. My job is to allow developers to do what they do best, and that's to keep coding.I am convinced in the power and reliability of immutable infrastructure and automation. Almost all infrastructure solutions are built using Hashicorp's Terraform, which provides completely documented infrastructure as code that can be easily modified and reproduced. I have made multiple contributions to the Terraform codebase which has allowed me even better insight into the product and it's abilities.For application deployment, I am a supporter of Docker containers and have created deployment pipelines using CircleCI for testing and container building, with deployments being scheduled on Kubernetes. The deployment speed of containers make them great solution.I also have lots of experience working with data scientists helping provide them with solutions with RedShift, Aurora, Postgres, large Redis clusters, Couchbase, and EMR. Data warehousing can be very demanding and being able to provide good solutions quickly has benefited everybody involved.I develop most of my solutions using Golang. I find the portability of the statically-linked binaries to be a nice solution. My most successful Go application is a Slackbot used by a customer to manage artifact promotion between dev, staging, and production.
